The Town of Palm Beach says it has two public beaches on the island, Midtown Municipal Beach and Phipps Ocean Park, with lifeguards every day of the year. This page covers where they are, their hours, the meters and rates, the dog rule and Phipps Ocean Park’s reopening, and it says plainly which beach rules we could not read on a live Town page. We checked everything on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

The Town gives two mileage figures: its visitor page says 12 miles of beachfront, and its government page says three miles of public beaches. They measure different things, so we quote both and do not pick one.

Midtown Municipal Beach

This is the beach most people mean by Palm Beach’s municipal beach. The Town places Midtown Municipal Beach north of Worth Avenue in the 300 block of South Ocean Boulevard, and lists its hours as sunrise to sunset, with lifeguards on duty 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. From the shops, it is the public beach closest to Worth Avenue.

Phipps Ocean Park: closed until November 18, reopening November 19

The Town says Phipps Ocean Park is closed to the public from May 1 through November 18, 2026; only the racquet center and its parking have reopened, for tennis and pickleball patrons. The Preservation Foundation lists the Ribbon Cutting and Grand Opening for Thursday, November 19, 2026, 11:00 am, at 2201 South Ocean Boulevard, open and complimentary to the public. The Town lists the improvements as native plantings, relocating the Little Red Schoolhouse, a Coastal Restoration Center, an outdoor classroom, garden and playground, new beach pavilions, lifeguard towers, bathrooms and walking paths, and two pickleball courts. Lifeguard hours at the reopened park are not published yet.

The Preservation Foundation says the park was the Phipps family’s 1948 gift and runs from the Atlantic Ocean to the Intracoastal Waterway with 1,200 feet of oceanfront. The Little Red Schoolhouse, founded in 1886 as the first schoolhouse in Southeast Florida, was moved there in 1960. On Tuesday, December 1, 2026, 8 to 10 am, the Foundation holds a free Winter Bioblitz at the park’s entry plaza.

Unguarded beach and the dog beach

The Town says beachgoers can also use the beach from Barton Avenue to Seaspray Avenue and from Sunset Avenue north to Wells Road, with no lifeguards in those sections. Dogs are allowed only on the Sunset to Wells beach: off leash from dawn to 9am and on a leash after 9am.

What the Town does not publish, or we could not read

The Town’s beach FAQ page now returns a page-not-found message, and no live Town page we read sets out rules on alcohol, smoking, glass, tents or fires on the public beaches. We state none of them. Ask a lifeguard on duty, or call Town Hall at 561-838-5400. The only swimming information we hold is the Town’s lifeguard hours above; we make no claims of our own about conditions in the water.

NOAA’s National Hurricane Center says the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, peaking around September 10. The Town says Palm Beach is in Evacuation Zone B, often among the first areas to evacuate during a hurricane threat. The date checker flags hurricane-season dates, and plan your visit has the rest of the day.
